really? I posted this just to see peoples real opinions of the situation. Dont think I've heard too many opinions on the matter. I didn't actually state my personal opinion on this subject. If you're reading between the lines then you missed why I wrote this post.

Now that I've thought about it more, I don't believe you can put fursuits and fetish gear in the same category. For instance, if a fursuiter walks into an elementary school, how would that differ from someone covered in hard core bondage gear? Just because some poeple look at fursuits as fetish gear, doesn't allow it to be lumped in with straight up bondage gear. I mean, just because some ppl have sex with beach balls doesn't they should be banned from the public even though some ppl consider then to be fetish related.

Fursuits are not by definition a fetish clothing, but certainly can be to some people. Much like other clothing that people have fetishes for (e.g. wetsuits, transvestism) they have non-fetish other uses.

I haven't come across the day-to-day use for a ball gag yet!

I wasn't actual saying this, I was just making a joke. :P

The true heart of the matter lies in perception. If I have sex in my fursuit, then is fetish gear, regardless of how it's perceived. However, the only thing that is important is the perception. I could wear a zeta toy on my head if the perception of it was benign. So, even if the truth of the matter is that when I'm in fursuit and you're in bondage gear, we're both wearing fetish gear, only the person who is perceived as being in fetish gear will catch flack for it.

(In fact, I like where this is going. *murrs and sticks his paw down your leather pants and invites you to myspace. ;P)

Ah I think I might have found what you were refereeing to (or maybe not as there to to many of these infractions to count)

I think what leads people to act in this manner is that they have some "developmental issues" and honestly cannot recognize that what they are doing is totally inappropriate for the environment they are in. To add further fuel to the fire, Furry fandom has the problem of being a little too tolerant. A lot of folks in the fandom come from upbringings where they were the outcasts and they may feel its improper to call people out on acting inappropriately (even when its totally warranted)

This situation will not get any better until we have folks, in decent numbers, that have the will to admonish folks for acting this way.

where does one draw the line? restrictions can be looser for a nightly furry dance vs. a daytime fursuit parade. Can a husky wear a sled harness? It's been a long worry of slacking restrictions and common decency in furry decorum, but who's gonna go policing people?

Next thing ya know people are gonna start going around con with their fursuit head off, and then we won't have any more headless lounges.

Of course, this begs the converse question.  How many furries who have husky characters and fursuits do so specifically because they think it gives them the chance to wear harnesses or other bondage gear in public and to engage in their fetish without people saying anything?

Well, I know what I do: rely on my intuition tempered by experience. That is: I read the Code of Conduct and behave accordingly. And if what I want to wear doesn't quite fit the "letter of the law," I ask for clarification and permission first!

But yeah, fursuits wearing fetish gear is "teh win." I'm all for it - in the proper context, of course!

Then the proper answer I'd say is "Heeeell no".

Even in the fandom, there is a perception that having such materials out in public is entirely acceptable, as for some people, fursuiting = fetish (yes, the big secret is out!).

It's just a natural progression to mix-and-match. Furthermore, convention environments tend to come with them the perceived perception that it's okay to do it, because "it's just furry". So when people go out in public to go suiting, sometimes people might make the slightly illogical jump that "Well, I can do it a convention, I can do it at this get together!"

People really need to learn how to put their brains to work. :(

Stuff like the nylon collars, husky sled harnesses, etc that you could get at PetsMart or something make sense for a canine costume accessory.

I don't like any kind of fetish gear what so ever :P. Not on fursuit and not without fursuit. Definitely NOT in public! Do not show fetish gear in public. Such things should be done at a fetish convention or behind closed doors and windows. I hate the people that are walking around in black leather fetish gear at furry conventions... What the fuck >.>. Get lost! Start your own convention on just fetish gear.
