another furry theory
Ok, this applies anyone who's into fursuiting in anyway. So apparently, I really really high percentage of the people I have personally asked have fit into one of these categories. I'm really curious if it's like that to all furries, or if it's just coincidence since i've only really asked like maybe 10 ppl. So, here goes.

Again, this only applies to furries interested in fursuits or fursuiting.

Yeah, I'm not big on the humanoid mascots at all, especially the silly, inflatable ones the seem to use nowadays, like Lil Red at Nebraska.

I'd say I was indifferent, because I can't remember ever meeting a mascot when I was little, but I'm pretty sure I would have liked them alright. Unless the costume sucked. :P

For me, the answer would of been somewhere in the middle, but I just HAD to pick something..so it's no..I loved em.

Depending on how toony and welcoming the character was, from what I remember, I was ok with costumed characters. A few times my parents hired some random fuzzy critter to greet me for my birthday..that was cool. However, I think I only got shy a few times with some big rat or whatever.

So I got corrupted early in life..and now I don't mind being the fuzzy critter myself.

I don't remember much, but I think I was fine with the ones at Disneyland.

There is also a lack of horrifying memories so I think it's safe to say I was alright with mascots.

I was terrified of them. Louie the Lighting Bug in particular. I would litterally walk on the other side of the exposition center (usually at the state fair) to avoid him & any other suited people. I remember the main thing was that some of them would approach me thinking I would love them & pose for a picture which was far from the truth. So it created a stigma for all mascots whether they approached me or not. If I saw them approaching other kids I high tailed it out of there. They no longer bother me now though :3

I can't remember honestly. I'm not sure I had any interactions with a mascot character as a kid. The only things I remember from those ages is that I wasn't afraid of clowns (at least at the circus) and for a small time I was afraid of big dogs because one jumped up and knocked me over and caused me to bit my tongue really badly. (My parents reminded me years later the "big" dog was a cocker spaniel, but, hey, I was 4!) I didn't hit Disney until age 11, and at that time I was fine with the mascots.

But did not really like the places that mascots were

Anyways when I was that age not many places had mascots in the first place.

Although my Mom knew a bunch of people in theater so I really loved costumes in general. Memories of a 5 year old at a parties in the east village as a kid.

It was not until I was 14 that I got to go to Disney for first time, it was before epcot was open to the public but half the landmark was built.

Ohhh and clowns, geeeze run away run away.

I know that I don't like 'mascots' like they have for businesses. Giant cups of coffee, and banannas and oil filters an stuff are just creepy.

I have always had a life long love for mascots and costume characters. The Disney characters at Disneyland and WDW were pretty much how I first got exposed to mascots.

Ever since I was about six or so, I have always dreamed about being in a mascot costume every time I saw somebody wearing one, and I got my first gig as my high school mascot when I was 16. I LOVE mascots, to be honest! That's pretty much the story behind my suit. Plus, I've always enjoyed those old cartoons with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and the like, and fursuiting gives me the opportunity to feel what's it like to be a cartoon character, to say in the least. So yeah, I guess my love for mascots and costume characters is really what got me into fursuiting. :0)

Really? So as a kid your were scared, but never fully grew out of that, but you are fine as long as you are the one in suit. What about when you are in suit around other mascots? What about fursuits, do you still feel uneasy around them?

also, answer to your other question is here: http://skuffcoyote.livejournal.com/74538.html

When I am in suit and around other mascots? Well, there is still a little bit of fear; though, not nearly as much!
I am still trying to get used to what to do and how to interact with other mascots! It's fun, but I still am
getting used to it. :)

What makes me uneasy around them? Well...I see some suiters who don't really show any expression in suit. You know,
they're just kind of like "I'm in a suit! Look at my wonderful suit," but don't actually bring the suit to life...
These kinds of suiters, I am very afraid to approach because it doesn't look like they're actually enjoying being in
suit. I'd almost feel like I was bothering them! Another thing that makes me uneasy when I'm NOT in suit is simply
'not knowing'. I suppose since I cannot see their face, or read minds and stuff like that, I just get a little
shaky. Now, don't get me wrong! I absolutely love it when suiters approach me! I am just at a loss of how to
interact with em. It's almost like being thrown up on stage as a pup with no help remembering your lines and expected
to give a flawless performance! (That's a true story, by the way!) :P When in suit, it feels like a bit of protection.
Nobody can see how nervous I am...AND since nobody can see me being nervous, it makes me less nervous! Whoops! I got
carried away with this comment. :) Well, there ya go!

ahhh, that makes perfect sense. I'm mostly the same way myself. I feel a bit awkward because my personality does not match someone who is performing in suit. Ya know? Like you wouldn't expect a big nerd to feel socially comfortable with the captain of the football team talking interacting with them.
