Some Great News for onces
Well I know I haven't been on here much, but it doesn't change the fact I now have something that I think alot of you will be happy for me. As some of you, who follow me on Twitter would know but if not, well as of Wednesday I got a new job at well the Good Guys and be working in the Tech Zone *aka electrical section*, so I'm so excited but I am also nervous, why you might ask well the manager there give me the creeps, but yeah otherwise I'm really happy with this, it mean after 2 years of hating my Kayak job, I come out and found a job that I'm going to LOVE... hehe so yeah. I start work Tuesday and also working Wed, and Thurs, from 10am - 6pm, so yeah I happy with that, and I get a month roster so I know what I'm doing. They also have given me the ok to attend MiDfur 11 which is super nice, so I can't wait for MiDfur too... so the rest of this month is going to be interesting. AND I CAN'T WAIT... hehe Darken out... Seeking Roomie
Hi all. Despite allegations to the contrary, it appears as though I'll be at FC again this year. As such, I'm looking for one more person to make up a 4-person room (one bed already taken up by 2 American friends). The room is available from Thursday night until Tuesday morning, and it'll be a fair split between everyone ($187.50 per person for the whole 5 nights). Why there's so much drama around fursuits
Why is there so much drama surrounding fursuits and fursuiters? I've seen several people post comments like, "they're just animal costumes." And I can't agree more. However, to others they represent more. Sometimes MUCH more. For a select few it's their job. However since for the heavy hitters of fursuit studios, there really is no concern over a lack or demand. For some of the smaller studios though, this may be a concern. Albeit a good reason, this probably makes up less then 1% of the drama so it is almost void. To fully answer this question, one must deviate into what exactly a "typical furry" is. Furry is a nerdish / science fiction based fandom. It is full of socially awkward, possibly unaccepted in society people, mainly males. Another section that must be noted is the "weird, misunderstood artist." Obviously this doesnt lump EVERYONE into one category, but I believe for this purpose can be used as a generalization. Point being is most furries have some sort of self image deficiency. Everyone has a level self consciousness, but being a nerdy/ fantasy based fandom, I believe the percentage is most likely higher then normal everyday life. So what does all this have to do with fursuit drama? Well, most furries that create a fursona or character put alot of themselves into it. Most are based somewhat directly off the person that created it. It's no secret than in a drawing or in a fursuit, you become your character, whatever it is that you created. You're not you, but rather something different, something new, something... better. For myself, Im a fairly reserved personality, but when I get into a bright blue dog costume, I enjoy playing a character that is much more "friendly" and outgoing. I do things I would never consider doing out of suit. When you mix people with some sort of chip on their shoulder, with something they put a lot of themselves into to create something more desirable to be, it's really a recipe for disaster. Like most fantasy based subcultures, people get sucked into them or their new persona very easily. Haven't any of you watched a friend get caught up into WOW, or RP'ing, or LARPING, or even just into furry? When you input this much passion into something that represents yourself, people are more likely to defend it. Its an extension of themselves. It's their "place." It's their "home." For many of us, it's more then just an "animal costume." Some people spend 10's of thousands of dollars commissioning art and costumes, that's how important it is to them. For that scene on paper, or that 80 minutes in character in suit, they truly are exactly what they want to be. It can be very empowering. However, at the end of the day, it is just an animal costume. They are just drawings. They are just cartoon characters you created. Maybe it is your escape. Maybe you feel like you belong here. But when it all comes down to it, furry in it's simplest form is a hobby. A childish one too. While it may represent something more, or a chance to escape, or a way to fix a problem in your daily life, it's still cartoons and animal costumes. |

Question about Floppy Ears!
So, Shadow and I are in the process of finishing up our first fursuit head. QUESTION...should we tape/fur the ears THEN fold them (they have wires in them so they can be straight or folded), or fold THEN tape/fur? Any help is appreciated. XD |

F00D So things have been going well at the new house! We have some nice things, a good kitchen, TVs, places to sleep, a good computer system, all sorts of nice things and we're quite happy with how things are going. Tonight ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) gerret_t_ferret and I made some amazing authentic Chinese food. Flank steak with some Bang Bang sauce and caramelized onions, along with white rice and some wonderful Chinese Lychee tea. It was an excellent dinner, and was quite fun to make! I had a great time doing it. Since I have a thing for making desserts, (I love to bake and such, and it's harder to mess up sweets) I made some Rice Krispie Treats. I bought the ingredients for it a week or so ago, and just now got around to making them. They're amazing. I love them so much. draco751 got me a tasty Google Wave invite, and I've been messing around with it a bit. It's a pretty interesting idea, and I talked with a few friends on there and started a couple things, like a recipe list/log of what we've been making so that we can keep track of stuff. I really wish I had a working camera so I could take pictures of all of this stuff and post it up there, but for now we'll just go off what we remember. Still lots of tasty things to do, and since we have a fairly nice kitchen, and I just recently purchased a nice Cuisinart 10 piece stainless cookware set (not nonstick) we've been getting into the cooking mood something fierce. Anyways, the Panasonic projector I just got is out in Kansas at the moment getting repaired. Seems out of all the ones they shipped, there were about two or three that had an issue where they would randomly shut themselves down.. Seems I got one of those. :/ Anyways, it's being fixed right now and I should have it back sometime this coming week. I'll be heading back to Arizona again on the 29th, to go and do some more work for two weeks, then be back here December 12th, just in time for my birthday and company Christmas dinner (which is that night, so I won't be available for any plans.) Well, that's about it for now, if anyone has Google Wave and they wanna mess around on it, I'm game, chorca@gmail.com if you wanna add me. Still messing with how it works and learning more about it. Got my motorcycle back up and running again after a brief fork oil leakage issue, so I'm up if anyone wants to go riding.. I'll prolly ride it into work tomorrow too. Inside of the fursuit head?
I've come to a halt in my head construction. I've looked through the heads memories, but I cannot find what I was looking for. So my question is, for those with a mesh fursuit head, What do you line it with? I was making the head for a friend and it didn't seem very professional or nice to give it to her considering how icky the inside looked. My foam was aged and splotchy and I don't want her to see that. It'd be easy to say just get a balaclava, but you still see the inside of the head, you just don't feel it. Can anyone help? |

Anyone want a NWA plane ticket for FC from MSN?
So a friend is flying in from Madison, WI for FC. We decided to change their flight to have them stay longer, but it'll end up costing so much to change the ticket, its cheaper to just buy a new one, and I"m getting no refund on the old one. SO! Would anyone be interested in a NWA flight from MSN to SJC? Flys in Wed, Jan 20th leaving at 3:10PM with a stop through MSP and arrives at SJC at 7:47PM Returns Tuesday Jan 26th leaving at 12:10PM and landing MSN at 8:34PM Total ticket price was $255 including all fees and such. first bat
 no particular breed (as far as i know) i just followed the ref. i did look up bat noses because the nose on the ref is a bit obscure and man do bats ever have strange noses o.O this guy looks better in person, the pictures pick up the glare of the shiny red fur and the black around the eyes way more than the human eye does, plus i wish i had better lighting >_< his expression is supposed to be "friendly stoner surfer with a very dark, sadistic side. The polite, friendly serial killer, lol" which are contradicting expressions so it was hard to pull off, i got the friendly part ...and hopefully him being devil colored is enough for the evil part XD ( Pictures ) |

Almost Time
And so, MFF is upon us once again. I kind of like how my work schedule is. I work from home Monday through Wednesday as it is, and I've taken Thursday and Friday off for con, so really I don't have to go into work at all. I'm also taking all week off next week, so I've got one hefty vacation coming up. So, let's see...got registered, got the schedule, even got it planned out for the most part. I love going to furry cons. I just hope i don't get sick. I'll take all the precautions I usually do, but it's a foregone conclusion sick people will show up...hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones. As usual we'll be taking Thanksgiving with Todd's family and they're awesome cooks. It would suck to be sick and miss it. In unrelated news I'm trying hard to resist spending $20 of my con budget on a video game. There's this new singleplayer RPG out called Torchlight. I downloaded the demo yesterday and absolutely fell in love with it. Must resist... Well, anyway, I just wanted to write a little blurb about my life. I'll ahve a con report later on. MFF 2009 Fursuit Lineup
    Here is the four characters of mine you will see roaming around at MFF this year. This will be the first time Sprynger has been to a con since MFF 2007 and he's due to get back into the con swing. Cactus Jack Coyote wore his feet out chasing the Road Runner so he's out of commission until I get those replaced. Skamper's tail is fixed and ready to go for MFF, but please be gentle with it as he's still feeling a bit of the effects of it. :/ I'm going to try to get in as much suiting as I can during the con and around my staff duties. It's going to be a tough juggle between running the puppet track, helping with the FVS, and having four character suits with me. As for my mental state, I'm feeling ready for the con... but I still have a black cloud looming in the way. I would imagine that will be cleared up soon, helping me get excited for the con. MFF has always been my home con and always will! This will be my 8th trip to MFF and it shall be as much fun as the last seven! See everybody at the con! Current Mood: relaxed |
